Not a Copycat is a research-informed graphic novel project which highlights the success of the Japanese doujinshi hybrid economy through the lens of fan studies. Doujinshi offers a robust social-learning system, through which, future manga creators acquire craft knowledge, expand their network and develop professional skills.

Thanks to a three-month residency with CGArts in Tokyo, which was funded by the Japanese Ministry for Cultural Affairs, I was able to begin this long-form investigative comic. It is due for completion in 2022.
